Ghrawi Confectionnery
In 1891, the manufacturing of dried fruit, nougat and melban were conducted strictly by hand. Since their introduction, the sweets have been immensely popular with arabs, especially during times of celebration. The second generation of manufacturers expanded this lucrative business by exporting their sweets to the Western world.
The Westerners have since included these sweets in their own festivities.
In 1930, the manufacturers added chocolate and marzipan to their collection of sweets. With the introduction of more sweets, and improvements made on existing ones, the manufacturers enjoyed success at exhibitions.
The use of machinery allowed the al Ghrawi family to compete with established sweet companies. The shift from hand made production to machinery facilitated the expansion of the company. By the time the third generation of manufacturers stepped in, the al Ghrawi family not only increased their consumer count, but also managed to create 500 different sweets, each with a distinctive taste.
